Ta Prohm

Nature and man worked together to shape this amazing architectural wonder, the Ta Prohm temple. This temple was built by Jayavarman VII in memory of his mother.

Ta Prohm is designed as a "flat" Khmer temple (not a temple-pyramid or temple-mountain like many others) though it also faces the east. The complex consists of five rectangular walls surrounding a central sanctuary. Ta Prohm greatest hallmark is not in its bas reliefs but its merge with the jungle. Huge cotton tree roots grow and run along the ruins, creating an amazing scene.

Ta Prohm was abandoned and neglected after the Khmer Empire fall in the 15th century. When the French archeologists found the temple, they decided not to restore but left the temple as it is, which made Ta Prohm stand out among Angkor temples.
